Excellent book! This is a very well written and illustrated book. It goes over all different types of medical or physical conditions children can have and explains it in such a way that younger children can understand why their friends are different. The world needs a book like this one! It’s easy to see this was a labor of love from the author. Excellent book to help open up discussions about how other children are different but should still be included and not excluded!Go Cooper’s Mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Inclusive This book shows real kids with real disabilities. This book explains those disabilities in ways that even very young children will understand. Yes it is a bit long as one reviewer noted but being an alphabet book you can do one or two letters at a time. Another reviewer noted that ADHD was not present even though it is a very prominent diagnoses. I, as a person with ADHD, feel that the province of ADHD is possibly one reason it wasn't included. I appreciated that there were many lesser known diagnoses included in this book.

Great, inclusive book Loved this book. I am a teacher of the Visually Impaired. It is so important to show friends with all kinds of similarities and differences. I love how inclusive it is, and I cannot wait to read it to my students!

So Cute & Educational This book is the cutest and is a great way to teach young children about treating others as friends, even if they may be a little different. Leipholtz explain multiple disabilities on an appropriate level for kids, with the sweetest illustrations to go along with it.

Wonderful, intelligent book! This book is beautifully illustrated and written. It's explanations simple so as not to be overwhelming or unapproachable, but it doesn't dumb things down. I'm a medical professional and I learned a few things reading this book. The explanations are ELI5 which is perfect and while it seems simple, it is very hard to do as well as this.Of course, the true beauty of this book isn't just in the illustration but in the message. Teaching my son about kids who are different is very important to me. Teaching him to recognize different needs is teaching him to find opportunities to help people in different ways. The most important lesson here is each child is deserving of love, acceptance, and kindness from other children *and* adults.

Such an important topic. In the field of child development, we are always looking for ways to teach inclusion and learn more about needs of our peers around us. I have purchased this book for my child care centers, because it is colorful and has a great intent! Inclusion is so important, but so is feeling confidently unique and bold and powerful in each own person's way! My son was born with cleft, and it was important that he was open about his difference with everyone he met. We have found that people are scared of what they don't know. This book will help others understand differences and be more open to talking about them.

Kind Words

"It's so important for kids to understand inclusiveness at an early age and this book is a great way to introduce what are normally complex topics in simple terms for all ages! As an individual who was born with a hearing loss, I only wish this book was around when I was kid. It's engaging, the illustrations are well done and I believe every kid should read this one!"

"In her beautiful children’s book—as in her daily life—Beth is bravely and honestly using her own journey as a mother of a young deaf son to highlight the journeys of other exceptional children. Her voice of sensitivity, respect, and advocacy comes through in every carefully chosen word and engaging illustration...As an Early Intervention specialist and the wife of a Deaf adult, I am grateful for this work of Beth’s heart."

"It is crucial for children to learn the meaning of true inclusivity and acceptance of others, and this book does just that in a way that is relatable and accessible for all...This book is a game changer for the way we think about inclusion, and I'm so excited for more people to read it and be touched by its message."

"I’ve read to each of my three kids their entire lives, and I’ve never seen a book that addresses kids with different kinds of extra needs quite like this one does. This a perfect age-appropriate tool to help children learn about friends and peers who may seem different from them, but are really so very much the same. Beautiful illustrations and informative, engaging text — I recommend it for any child!"

“Every child and classroom needs a copy of this book. Kids benefit greatly by seeing themselves represented in what they read—this book does that beautifully. It’s a great book for all kids to better understand and embrace those who have differences.”
